Submission deadline July 1st 2018

What is the theme for Issue 1?

The title for the first issue is "Weird Science". This is purposefully vague and open to interpretation. The universe is a strange and marvelous phenomenon so lets celebrate that!

What are the rules for the Artwork?

We don't want to place too many constraints on your creativity, but the work must be suitable for Risograph printing to be included. If you are not familiar with Risograph printing, then you can read a fantastic guide to the world of Risograph printing by Gabriella Marcella at the wonderful Risotto Studio website (it's a downloadable PDF called the "print Bible").

Submissions will be in the form of digital files which we will print in-house. Artwork should be 300dpi on an A3 canvas, with layers clearly identifying the colour separations, as well as a full-colour digital mock-up of how you expect the work to look when printed.

Colours - you can use any of the following colours in your artwork, but submissions with more than 4 colours are less likely to be included for practical reasons:

If we want to include your work but it is not set up or suitable for Risograph printing, then we will work with you to get the work print-ready.

How will selection work?

A panel made up of staff at The Holodeck and Artefact Projects will assess the submissions and select the 50 works, that when taken together, produce the most interesting publication.

What does it cost?

It costs nothing to take part. The Holodeck is covering all printing and production costs, and Artefact Projects in Stirchley, Birmingham, are kindly hosting the public exhibition.

All participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book and 10 copies of their own print (to keep, give to friends and family, or sell). The book will be available to purchase, with any profit from book sales to be used in funding future issues. Proceeds of sales of individual prints (available in the exhibition and Risobook webshop) will be split 50:50 between the artist and Artefact (for exhibition sales) and The Holodeck (webshop sales).
